What is Reiki? 🌀
Reiki is a gentle, natural energy healing practice which comprises of two Japanese words: “Rei” (Universal) and “Ki” (Life Force Energy). Together they describe the Universal Life Force Energy that flows through everything and all living things.
The methodology we know and use today originated in Japan in the early twentieth century by Mikao Usui. To be clear, Usui Sensei didn’t “invent” Reiki, but he did put into place a set of simple techniques which allow us to harness that life force energy for our greatest and highest good.
A Reiki practitioner channels this energy — through intention, presence, and learned technique — to support healing on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. It’s non-invasive, deeply relaxing, and widely used as a complementary healing practice alongside conventional medicine.
There are three main levels of Reiki certification:
- Level 1 (Shoden) — The Foundations: Self-healing techniques, the history of Reiki, the Five Reiki Principles, and beginning to work with energy
- Level 2 (Okuden) — Practitioner Level: The Reiki symbols, distance healing, and the skills to confidently offer sessions to others
- Level 3 / Reiki Master (Shinpiden) — Master Level: The Master symbol, advanced techniques, and the highest tier of Reiki certification

Can you really learn Reiki online? ✨
This is the question I see most often and I completely understand why! The concern usually comes from a genuine place: Reiki feels sacred and ceremonial, and people wonder whether the screen somehow diminishes that? 🤔
It doesn’t. Here’s why: Reiki is energy. It is not bound by geography, by walls, or by physical distance. The Universal Life Force Energy flows wherever it’s needed. That means teaching it, learning it, and receiving it can happen just as powerfully online as it can in person.
In fact, many of my students who had previously trained in person have told me they actually learned more through the Natural Healer™ course because self-paced learning lets you truly absorb and integrate the material, rather than racing to keep up with a classroom.

How to choose the right online Reiki course 🤔

- Are the instructor’s Reiki credentials documented?

What is a Reiki Attunement — and can it be done at a distance? 🕊️
The Reiki Attunement is the energetic heart of Reiki training. It’s a ceremony performed by a Reiki Master Teacher that “opens” you to channelling Reiki energy — like tuning a radio to receive a particular frequency 📻
And yes — it absolutely can happen at a distance. This isn’t a modern workaround. It’s grounded in one of the five Reiki symbols: the Distance Symbol (Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen), which helps our intentions transcend time and space 💫
In my Natural Healer™ Distance Student Reiki Attunement Ceremony, I connect energetically with each student at their confirmed ceremony date and time, perform the full ceremony completely remotely — offline, with minimal electrical interference — and then email each student a full account of the ceremony the following day, including the time, duration, and any observations I received.

How long does it take to learn Reiki online? 🕰️
The honest answer is: it depends 😉 And that’s actually one of the most beautiful things about a self-paced online course.
Learning Reiki isn’t like cramming for an exam. It’s an experiential, energetic practice. Some students immerse themselves and complete the course within a couple of weeks. Others take several months, sitting with each level before moving on. Some pause when life gets busy, then pick it up again. All of those approaches are completely right because lifetime access means there’s genuinely no rush 🏵️
What self-paced learning gives you that a fixed classroom can’t is the ability to pause, revisit, and truly integrate. You can rewatch a lesson as many times as you need. You can take a few days between chapters. You can come back to the material months after graduating and it’ll all be right there waiting for you. Can you learn Reiki online?
Can Reiki Attunement Ceremonies be done at a distance?
Yes! Attunements can be done via distance! How? Because Reiki is energy healing – and energy healing has no boundaries or time-restraints – there are no limitations on the ability to attune students from afar. Reiki healing can be done at a distance which means the ceremonies can by done at a distance too!
To further clarify, Melissa connects energetically with students (after they have confirmed their ceremony date and time with her) and performs the ceremony completely remotely. After the ceremony is done, Melissa emails all the information about it (date, time frame and so on) to each student, including any observations she made.
Can I ask questions while I'm learning?
Yes! You can ask questions throughout the course! Melissa makes herself available to help guide her students at any point during their learning journey. Students can directly ask Melissa questions in two different ways: either (1) within the course itself using our “Lecture Discussions” feature. This allows Melissa and the student to converse within the course content itself.
And (2) via the Reiki Student Community, which allows students to chat with Melissa – and with other students if they wish – to ask questions, share experiences, find practice buddies, and more! In either scenario, Melissa will respond and converse directly with students there.
