It's OK to feel this 💙
A lot of people push their emotions aside because they don’t want to be labelled “emotional’ or irrational. Then there are some feelings that our meagre words just cannot adequately describe…
You know, the ache that stays in your chest after a major loss. The exhaustion that isn’t from doing too much, but from feeling too much, and for too long. The grief from disappointed hopes and dreams – from ended relationships to versions of yourself that you aren’t proud of…
If any of this resonates, please read on 🙏
The emotions we carry 💙
Many of us go through life carrying things we should put down, yet we don’t. Even though we know they don’t serve our greatest and highest good. The easiest word to refer to that baggage we carry is “burden”. And that bag can be filled with a wide variety of negative emotions, stacking one atop the other, over a long period of time.
Whether that bag is full of past grief that we haven’t quite dealt with; a hurt from a broken relationship; anger that was “swallowed”; or disappointment in ourselves that we simply aren’t acknowledging and letting go of; or something else…
From an energetic perspective (which is the foundation of Reiki) unprocessed emotions don’t simply disappear. They settle into the energy body and then lodge into the physical body as tension, heaviness, fatigue, or something else. As those emotions settle, one on top of the other, they can show up as being hot tempered or highly reactive, or the opposite – disinterestedness and numbness.
What’s more, there are many instances where someone who’s carrying too much reacts on both ends of the spectrum: they’re exhausted but can’t rest, they’re angry but apathetic. It’s a very confusing place to be.
What’s great about Reiki is that it works directly with that negative energy you’re holding onto. Keep in mind though, it’s not about forcing anything and it doesn’t require “perfection” or over-exertion. Because Reiki creates a gentle, supported space for our Universal Life Force Energy to begin to flow – to move – once again, it means your emotional healing can go at whatever pace is right for you. 🌱
Emotional release - it's a good thing 💟
Emotional release = energy in motion. And once in motion, you have the opportunity to let it go so you’re no longer carrying it. If you don’t move that negative energy, it stays stuck – and so do you.
In saying this, because Reiki creates the space for you to empty your “baggage of burden”, it means those emotions can surface during or after a Reiki session. Whether it’s tears, a wave of sadness, or something else, remember that the experience of those emotions isn’t wrong, it’s Reiki working. And that’s a good thing!
On the other side of that release, you’ll naturally feel a lightness – because you’re no longer carrying that burden anymore. It’s like finally being able to breathe freely again, finally being yourself again. 🌿

Grief, loss, and quietly aching 🫂
Please remember that Reiki is not about “rushing” the grieving process. It’s not about ignoring the feelings of loss or avoiding the ache in your heart. This is not “just get over it” and move on before you’re ready, nor a platitude of “look on the bright side“.
Reiki for emotional healing and release is about offering balanced presence – specifically, an energetic, loving presence – in the middle of whatever you’re going through. That space, for many people, is what’s need to allow these emotions to “breathe” and move. As we acknowledge them, feel them, that movement slowly works its way up and out of our physical body. This doesn’t mean we won’t tear up, or feel emotions about a memory – what it does mean is we allow that sad or negative energy to surface and keep moving. Acknowledge, feel, then leg to. 💖

The Reiki Principles and emotional freedom 🕊️
Without going into a lot of detail, one of the foundational elements of Reiki is the Five Reiki Principles. These principles about emotional awareness which eventually leads to emotional freedom. Here are three of the principles that specifically relate to what I’m discussing now:
- Just for today, I will not be angry
- Just for today, I will not worry
- Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing
A side note, the last one above moves me, because every living thing includes you. And that’s inclusive of the version of you who’s struggling right now. It includes the feelings you’re not enjoying. All of you deserves the same compassion you’d give to someone else.
Working with these principles, even just a quick review of them each morning, can start shifting the relationship you have with your own emotions. 💖

You don't have to do this alone 💙
Whether you’re exploring Reiki as something to learn to help others, or you’re looking for something to lean on during a difficult time in your life, I want you to remember this:
- You belong here.
- You are worthy.
- You are valued.
- You are loved.
Please keep this close to your heart. And if you continue to face difficulties, please reach out for help – whether a friend, a loved one, a counsellor, or a service like Beyond Blue. Getting help one of the most courageous and loving things you can do for yourself.
And if it resonates, Reiki can walk alongside whatever support you’re already accessing. 💙 Lastly, while I (clearly) believe deeply in Reiki, please remember that it’s not a substitute for professional mental health or psychological support.
Whatever you’re carrying, remember you’re not alone 🫂 As ever, big love to you 💖 Melissa

Can you learn Reiki online?
Can Reiki Attunement Ceremonies be done at a distance?
Yes! Attunements can be done via distance! How? Because Reiki is energy healing – and energy healing has no boundaries or time-restraints – there are no limitations on the ability to attune students from afar. Reiki healing can be done at a distance which means the ceremonies can by done at a distance too!
To further clarify, Melissa connects energetically with students (after they have confirmed their ceremony date and time with her) and performs the ceremony completely remotely. After the ceremony is done, Melissa emails all the information about it (date, time frame and so on) to each student, including any observations she made.
Can I ask questions while I'm learning?
Yes! You can ask questions throughout the course! Melissa makes herself available to help guide her students at any point during their learning journey. Students can directly ask Melissa questions in two different ways: either (1) within the course itself using our “Lecture Discussions” feature. This allows Melissa and the student to converse within the course content itself.
And (2) via the Reiki Student Community, which allows students to chat with Melissa – and with other students if they wish – to ask questions, share experiences, find practice buddies, and more! In either scenario, Melissa will respond and converse directly with students there.
