Your body knows...so listen 📢
Sometimes it’s really obvious when you’re off balance, other times – it’s not so easy. Like when a full night’s sleep doesn’t remedy your tiredness or when you think you’re going in the right direction, to just find yourself in a negative loop, day after day.
In the realm of energy healing, that pervasive sense of being out of sorts (imbalanced), be it with your emotions, your goals, your relationships, and so on can be traced back to something being “off” deeper within you: your Chakras.
Now, don’t get me wrong! I’m not saying that balancing your Chakras is going to fix everything in your life simultaneously and instantly. But what I am saying is that when you’re balanced within first – then you have the best foundations to build upon. Leaving your inner energy flow (via the Chakras) in an imbalanced state – while expecting life to just magically fall into place is akin to leaving concrete foundations in an imbalanced state – while expecting it to build a solid house atop it.
So, here’s the thing – your body already knows when it’s out of balance – and it tells you via the 7 Main Personal Chakras (which are our inner energy centres). When they’re flowing freely, life flows more easily – because you’re making decisions and moving forward on solid foundations. But when they’re blocked, sluggish, or overactive, those negative effects ripple outward, impacting your mood, your body, your relationships, and your sense of self.
What to look for 🧐
Here are some easy ways to find out if your Chakras need a little extra love… 🌈 Then closer to the bottom of this post, I’ll provide a few tips and affirmations to help rebalance them!
Fear, instability and insecurity
If and when you experience fear, instability, and/or insecurity, the Root Chakra is the energy centre that most likely needs attention. It governs our sense of safety, stability, and belonging.
Signs the Root Chakra needs attention:
- Anxieity
- Exhaustion (that doesn’t go away with rest)
- Excessive attachment to “things”
- Anger/aggression
- Feelings of detachment (not belonging)
- Persistent sense that the world isn’t safe
Lack of creativity, stagnation, apathy
If and when you experience a prolonged lack of creativity, the feelings of stagnation, or apathy, the Sacral Chakra needs your focus and care. It’s the seat of creativity, pleasure, emotion, and flow.
Signs the Sacral Chakra needs help:
- Loss of inspiration
- Emotional numbness (feeling disconnected)
- Low libido
- Mood swings
- Addictive tendencies
- Over-dependence (being needy)
Low self-esteem, indecision, controlling
If and when you notice you’re in a state of low self-esteem, are overly indecisive, or want to control things (especially when they’re not directly related to you), these are signs that the Solar Plexus Chakra needs some energetic regulation. This is important because it’s the part of you that fuels the confidence you need to move forward in life.
Signs the Solar Plexus Chakra should be balanced:
- Low self-esteem
- Chronic self-doubt
- Difficulty making decisions (procrastination)
- Being a victim
- Controlling behaviour
- Temporary inflated sense of self (hides the low self-esteem)
- Can overdue things (looking for praise)
Feeling unloved, disconnected, holds grudges
If and when you find it hard to accept love (or to freely love others), feel isolated or alone, or cannot forgive, then the Heart Chakra requires your loving attention. This energy centre is so important because it’s the bridge between the lower and upper Chakras – it connects our material Chakras to those of the higher realms. As such, it governs love, compassion, grief, forgiveness, and our ability to truly connect with others.
Signs the Heart Chakra should be focus on:
- Difficulty in giving or receiving love
- Holds grudges (cannot or will not forgive)
- Feeling lonely or disconnected from others
- Cannot let go of grief (buried deep down)
- Co-dependency in relationships (you need someone else to feel worthy of love)
- Jealousy or possessiveness
Stifled expression, gossiping, fearful of saying the ‘wrong thing’
If and when you lack the courage to speak up for yourself, you gossip about others, or go along with things (even if you don’t want to), then the Throat Chakra – which governs authentic expression, communication, and the courage to speak your truth – needs to be balanced.
Signs it’s time to help the Throat Chakra:
- Difficulty speaking up for yourself
- Fear of saying the wrong thing
- Going along with things to keep the peace
- Talking over others (difficulty listening)
- Gossiping (and speaking without a filter)
- Using words to dominate rather than connect
Overthinking, cannot “see” truths easily, lack of inner trust
If and when you catch yourself overthinking, or find out that things are really what they seem, or tend to not trust your intuition, these are signs that the Third Eye Chakra needs healing. This Chakra is the seat of intuition, inner knowing, and perspective – so it’s an important one to foster as you move through life.
Signs your Third Eye Chakra needs attention:
- Overthinking
- Confusion or mental fog
- Inability to trust your intuition (gut feeling)
- Difficulty visualising or dreaming
- Living too much in your head (disconnected from reality)
- Unable to be “present” (give your attention to the now)
Feeling hollow, lack of purpose, cynical
If and when you find yourself feeling completely apathetic and hollow, unable to find your purpose, and very cynical about life – the Crown Chakra is in a state of disarray and needs your loving attention. This Chakra connects us to our highest self, our source, and the Divine.
Signs the Crown Chakra is is need of healing:
- Complete Spiritual disconnection
- Feeling like there’s no meaning to life
- Cynicism or nihilism
- Chronic exhaustion (more emotionally than physically)
- Detachment from the physical world
- Acting like you’re ‘above’ others (which “justifies” your detachment)
What to do next 🌸
First, take a breath! 😮💨 It’s going to be okay!
I can say that ☝️ with the utmost confidence because imbalanced Chakras aren’t permanent conditions. They’re your energy body’s message saying: “Hey, this area needs some love right now!”
What’s more, the beautiful thing about working with Chakras is that there are so many gentle and nourishing ways to respond to that “call to action”!
Some of my favourites, which you can start doing yourself right away:
- Meditation (and/or breathwork) putting your focus on a specific Chakra
- Hold or keep the crystals which are associated with each Chakra
- Reiki and energy healing sessions (in-person or distance) where the healer helps re-balance your energy
- Specific movement that physically signals you to reconnect your physical body to source energy – particularly yoga – but just walking and even dance can do this, too
- Journaling (or any form of creative expression) can help you release blocks
- Taking some “time out” in nature, especially barefoot on the earth (great for Root Chakra grounding)
